SS Sir Walter Scott

Today's the day ....................... to go to Loch Katrine

Loch Katrine, surely one of the most beautiful lochs in the Trossachs region of Scotland was the setting for The Lady of the Lake - a narrative poem by Sir Walter Scott, first published in 1810.

It is therefore very fitting that this legendary steamship which sails between the head of the loch and Stronachlachar should take his name. She was Commisioned by the Loch Katrine Steamboat Co and launched from the shipbuilding yard of William Denny & Brothers at Dumbarton on 31st October 1899. Since then she has given pleasure to thousands of passengers - including ourselves - in the 112 years that she has been in service .....................

PS This blip is specially dedicated to Marie-Claire Chaze who is very good at saying the name - Stronachlachar - with a good Scottish accent too!
