Petrol and Pollution

I can remember when I filled my tank for 10 bob (ten shillings in old money) but I'm talking late 60's where this memory comes from!
It's unbelievable that we had pickets at the oil refineries when the price of forecourt fuel reached £1.00 and today, 22 Dec 2011, it's actually come down a couple of pence to £1.30 (.9, mustn't forget the .9 which actually makes it near enough £1.31.
Price of filling my tank (Mx-5, Mk3.RC sport) was £55.31, incredible when I can remember that being a weekly wage!

While I was walking the dogs in the morning I noticed the upper air levels must have been very quiet with very little wind, which is unusual. I counted 24 aircraft contrails and during the next 20 minutes a further 6 aircraft flew over (Gloucester, UK).
Made me realise that maybe there is something in the theories about aircraft causing so much pollution but it won't stop my passion for aircraft!
