Motorways

Son #1 and girlfriend are driving back south today to their home in Bicester after spending Christmas with us. We had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed their visit.

Meanwhile, son #2 and his girlfriend are flying back to Edinburgh after spending Christmas with her family in Galway. They will then drive through to Renfrew to join us for some belated present opening before we go to my nephew's for a Boxing Day bash.

When I was out running this morning and crossed over the M8, it struck me just how important motorways are in bringing families together at this time of year. While they are regarded by most as rather grey swathes of concrete and tarmac, where would we be without them? Certainly fewer of us would be able to spend precious time together with our families and friends at Christmas.

So here's to motorways for helping bring people together. And to all those travelling on our motorways and other roads have a safe journey!
