Did you know that the Salvation Army owns houses in the U.S. with a total value of about $4 billion as of 2008. The $4 billion is the total estimated value of all the charity's real estate holdings in the U.S., including commercial real estate.

No idea what it is in Canada...but I am sure it is large as well. Seems to me that a lot of those dollars going into Christmas kettles are not making their way to the intended purpose.
