A heron sunrise

Woke up early enough this morning to be 0n the top of the hill in Highfield Garden Reserve before the sun came up. Could have waited for sunrise, but I decided to head down to the Snells Beach waterfront path. Right choice to have made.

As I ran along the path, there were great views from the first sight of the sun above the horizon to this photo of a heron walking through the shallows little more than 10 minutes later. I tried to get a little closer, only for the heron (and its mate) to take to the air and head further away from the shore.

I have chosen this picture over all the earlier (and at times very dramatic) ones, because of the heron, and the light on the water. The herons change from one end of the beach to the other, seemingly at random. Currently they are at the northern end.

During this run I saw and/or heard a number of birds, and even as a non bird watching fellow, was quite chuffed.

After breakfast I relaxed with the morning cryptic and a sudoku, followed by a cruise through blipmates' journals. A few mundane household tasks, and a lunch of leftovers from Christmas Day. Afternoon was spent finishing the tidying and organising of the deck, the garden and so on. Yesterday I had done a bit of pruning and we have an improved view of the bay, as a further discouragement to energetic pursuits. All very relaxing.

Posting this prior to organising the evening meal for S, daughter J and S' brother, and his wife and son. Will be another pleasant evening in a place where it is almost impossible to feel tense.
