Bob's Photo of the Day

Folly

Under this hill lies a burned-out coal mine. In the '50s and 60's smoke from the mine was still visible coming from holes in the ground. There were patches where no snow would stay on the ground. The mine caught fire in the '30s.

For some reason a developer was granted license to build a subdivision on this hill and another one behind my viewpoint also on a defunct coal mine. There was also to be a resort, golf-course and race track. This was all to be functional by 2005.

As it now stands the three buildings here have settled and cracked. They have been stripped of plumbing, electrical and windows.

I think the local council members were played like country bumpkins by a big city Flim-flam man.

2009: Misty
