A Doric A-Z: P revisited

Doric, the dialect spoken in the North-East of Scotland is rich in words and phrases associated with the land and the sea. I so much enjoyed my recent journey through the Doric dictionary that I plan to revisit it on an irregular and random basis. As before, the examples are taken mainly from Buchan Claik, The Saut an the Glaur o't written in 1989 by Peter Buchan and David Toulmin.

PLEUCH: A plough.

"Ye hinna suppit aneuch o brose yet min tae wun in atween the pleuch stilts, ye need tae be able tae stomack yer brose for a job like at." (You haven't drunk enough of the brose yet man to be allowed in between the plough handles, you need to be able to stomach your brose for a job like that.) Brose is oatmeal mixed with boiling water, salt and pepper, taken with cream or milk or porter ale.
