Father Ted!

Pyramid Patrick and I 'Literally' climbed a mountain this morning!

After collecting freshly made egg sandwiches, from Mostafa 'King of the sandwich' in the village, we started our ascent at 8.30. Patrick's printed notes from the internet said it would take 4 hrs!

Thoth Mountain, is the site of 2 Temples. The first is an archaic temple that possibly dates back to 3,000 BC making it the oldest temple built on the West Bank. In the 11th Dynasty, a Temple was built on top, by a pharaoh known as Sankhkare Mentuhotep.

We followed the ancient route to the top, looking down over desert ravines, the road to the Valley of the Kings and across to the River Nile and East Bank.
When you are high up and looking across to the East, the scenery is striking and impressive as you see the contrast between the desert and the lush green, irrigated fields.
It has always been said that the River Nile is the 'Source of life' and this is clearly plain to see.

We made good time, despite a short delay in working out which route to take!

After 2hrs of exchanging stories, sharing knowledge of the Country we love and working out the correct way to go, we reached the summit.

I will spare you a photo of mud bricks! But suffice to say, the trek was worth it. The views were amazing and of course with our egg sarnies, the climb was complete.

The descent was a little scary in parts, but lots of giggles and more stories shared made it so much easier!

Did I mention that Patrick is Irish? You can just imagine he used a few 'Fecks' along that sometimes, delicate and loose pathway! I felt like I had climbed Thoth Mountain with Father Ted!
