The Battle of the Boyne
This blip is a difficult one to write, a bit of a touchy subject in Ireland and the West of Scotland.
The Guy is one of a many in the Hamilton Orange Walk, which is a walk/march/demonstration/celebration/remembrance of the Battle of the Boyne in 1690.
It is traditionally it is Protestant event - one which does not go down well with the Catholic population and in the past, have ended in trouble!
To be honest its not something I know a great amount about, but nor do I have any real interest!
I also get the feeling half the people marching and the majority of the crowd walking along side know next to nothing about the history behind it so rather than being a true celebration or demonstration its a rather embarrassing excuse for a piss up and a good way to annoy catholics!
The sooner Scotland can wean itself off attitudes like this the better!
