Peninsula Light

The Lovat Bridge over the River Beauly, by Beauly.

That handrail would normally lead you down some steps towards the water's edge. There a bench seat there too. Today that seat was under at least a two feet of water. Yes, the water level's a bit higher than normal!

This point is about the limit of the influence of the tides in the Beauly Firth. The salt water won't reach this point, but extreme high spring tides can cause the river to back up to here. I know that from having paddled a sea kayak up to here from North Kessock, on a particularly large tide in the Summer of 2010. With the amount of water flowing today, there was no chance of that. I cycled here.

This could be considered the start of (or the most Southerly point of) the peninsula that is known as the Black Isle.
