Wee Snowy Plover

This poor fellow has lost one of his legs. Not an uncommon occurrence in the cruel world of Gulf Coast shorebirds. But he was hopping along just fine and seemed to be getting his share of the tidbits found in the sand at low tide....... there was a wonderful mixed flock of both large and small shorebirds today. Gulls, Semipalmated Plovers, Semipalmated Sandpipers, a Great Blue Heron, a Little Blue Heron, and more. All out for a jolly luncheon together.

The other choice for today a "decorated" whelk was absolutely fascinating. The shell was covered with barnacles, tube worms, sea weeds, several kinds of sand and a couple of miniscule crustaceans I couldn't ID.
