My ultimate pen blip
That was my original title for todays Blip, before I had taken any photos at all.
At home tonight I considered taking a photo of a biro or even a felt tip to go with my title.
Then in the end I decided to show you my Whitehaven harbour photo. the wind was fierce in Carlisle and I imagined it would be kicking up some big waves at the coast. I know its a bit of a cliche to take lighthouse/seawall photos but as I hadn't personally done it before today I hope I can be forgiven.
Heres some things I learned today
Find a shooting position that allows you to stay in your car and shoot through the open window.
Failing that, put on your coat, hat and gloves then put on your spare coat, spare hat and spare gloves and brave the elements.
YOU WILL GET COLD - GET OVER IT AND GET THE SHOT
In such strong wind it will be extremely difficult to shoot good results from a free-standing position. I managed a couple but soon opted to hunker down by a fence, allowing the camera (mounted on monopod) to lean against a fence post.
After choosing my framing I kept the camera in place, removed my eye from it and watched the waves swell and break. I soon learnt which would be most likely to crash against then over the seawall. Using continuous shooting mode I kept the shutter pressed until the scene was calm again.
Whenever seagulls flew into frame I pressed the shutter regardless as I knew they
would add something to my photograph, and, if they coincided with a big breaker then all the better.
I have uploaded all 200 or so photos from today HERE, the one I chose to Blip is number 0594. There are plenty more I could have used, especially towards the end when the sun came out and lit up the wall, but 594 had the drama, the seagulls and the lighthouse all nicely collected together.
I'm never sure how to edit my images for best result. Snappy has already provided his opinion/version after I emailed him the original and its distinctly different from this version. The good thing is I shot all day in RAW so have plenty of leeway for alterations now and again in the future when I have more photoshop savvy. I can certainly imagine at least one of todays photos ending up on my lavvy wall.
For a BIGGER verson of this one.
And finally, the title.....
inspired by a Blondie track...
