Journeys day by day

Holes? What holes?

I didn't make any holes, I don't know what you're talking about.

After yesterday's lame blip, I figured I needed to go get something worthy today. I headed back to the pond to see if I could get one of the ring-necked ducks close enough to produce a decent blip, and was pleasantly surprised to see the pond much more populated than the other day. There were 4 more pairs of ring necked ducks, a hooded merganser pair, a female common merganser, and a female gadwall. I worked my way around the pond trying to zoom in for good shots and was feeling pretty good about it, as my lunch hour time was slowly running out. As I was walking back to the car, all of a sudden this fellow popped his head out about 15 feet from me at eye level. He is a red-breasted sapsucker. I tried to catch his whole body, but he kept scooting around the trunk away from me, finally flying away much higher in a tree. He's obviously been working the tree, hopefully I can go back another day and find him there again.

Anyway, so will have to go back again another day for the ducks. This is only the second sapsucker I've seen, so up it goes. I have more confidence that I can get the ducks again than this pretty fellow.
