An epic Wimbledon finally, really. But I have to concede that Nadal deserved to win. Felt sad though, for more than one reason. And though I am not one to regret much, but there are a few things from yesterday evening that will linger on in my mind. And for this very reason, this photo really suits my day.
When it comes to the final act of playing, it boils down to the basics. It boils down to who you are. And at that point, it is the rustic who will edge out the philosopher. The question is one, and it is simple: how badly do you want to win?
When victory, and what lies beyond it becomes an intangible idea, far from a mere objective goal, it is then that a sportsman thrives. And with Federer yesterday, the desire was more to avoid a loss, than to win. Precision and economy are traits of the greats and Federer is no different. But with Nadal, the man gives his 100%, no matter how inconsequential the point might be in the context of the match. Anyway, there could be too much to write, too much about technique or even about the philosophical aspects.
But I'll stop here. This definitely will remain a Wimbledon final to remember.
