Potters' Square
Early but leisurely start...headed over late morning to Bhaktapur to be 'tourists'. The town is about 13km east of where Paul lives and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so we took a teeny taxi and paid through the nose (£10 each!) to be allowed to enter the heart of the town.
We wondered through the temples in Durbar Square, amongst the grounds of the Royal Palace and passed many shrines and ghats. I cannot believe how filthy the carvings are...serious porn visible at all angles...and from all angles! This picture was taken in Potters' Square, where men and women work on crude, wooden inertia wheels which they spin using a rod. The weight of the wood keeps the wheel spinning and the pots that they produce by hand cold be seen laid out in the midday sun to dry.
We had some soup and tea on a rooftop terrace and then headed back to Jhamsikhel to pick up some carrot and chocolate cake from our local baker. Then onto the roof of the apartment block to catch some late afternoon sun...it is warmer outside than in the flat! Now we are back in layers of clothing and experiencing the second load shedding of the day....a total of nine hours without electricity today! Next stop dinner, then to my sleeping bag to get warm! Geez it's chilly!
