The Little Egret
We spent today (which is Friday but because Saudi's weekends are Thurs and Fri so it is actually our 'Sunday) walking around Dohat Arad Walkway which is near the airport and is really a stunning 3 km walk around tidal flats with Flamingos, Herons, Egrets and maybe Plovers? Not sure what the littlies are called. They also pipe bird calls through speakers all around the walk which is a pleasant touch. The families were out in full force, ladies with the toddlers and husbands in their own little clusters.
A child had thrown some bread into the water which had brought a shoal of fish up which made easy pickings for the egret. Got some lovely shots but a little blurred as it happened so fast. But it's always a great way to spend some time, getting lost in the birdlife.
We also went to the Bahrain Museum which was very interesting as the history of the area is thousands of years old with tombs having been dug up from around 1400 BC and names like Mesopotania (now Iraq) (Babylon) being close neighbours of Bahrain. We have had some interesting discoveries in South African as well with Mrs Ples, but it's interesting to see how the Middle East came about.
