Opening

I imagine Marlow seeing a landscape like this as he begins his story, although it would likely be much more foreboding and full of brooding gloom. The river would also be much less since he was on the Thames. Nonetheless the banks opening up into a vastness of nothing and everything all at once seems to fit the "interminable waterway" appropriately.
