Happy Anniversary

Today is our 34th wedding anniversary.
We went to the Yorkshire Dales and spent the day cycling a much-loved route that we often do at this time of year. It's not too far (30 miles or so) but is hilly and there is often some unexpected incident - often related to the weather.
Today's was particularly bad.
We made good time from Buckden to Hawes, via Aysgarth, and despite continual drizzle, the weather was OK. After lunch and foot warming in a tea shop in Hawes, we tackled Fleet Moss. This is a beautiful but steep climb over into Littondale. The first mile or so were fine but as we approached the steepest section near the top, the rain turned to snow. It's 1 in 5 at the top, and we always cycle it OK, but this time our wheels were spinning and we had to walk the last couple of hundred metres.
By this time we were cold and wet, and slipping badly on the road. The steep descent to our B&B in Hubberholme was going to be very hard. Unbelievably two wonderful lads in a Suzuki jeep came to the rescue just at the right time. They ferried us and our bikes down the other side to below the snow line, and we then cycled the rest of the way to a long hot bath! Many thanks guys - you were stars!
