Stainton Crossing, Lancaster Canal

This is bridge 172 on the Lancaster Canal which once ran from Preston to Kendal until it ceased to be commercial used in 1947. A combination of dewatering due to water seepage and modern roads (M6, A590 etc.) cutting through the canal have left it in a mixed state. The Lancaster Canal Trust hopes one day to fully restore the canal but it is a very long term project.
