A grey day for the New Year

January 2012 began with grey skies but unseasonable warmth !

It seemed right to go to the National Memorial Arboretum on a quiet and peaceful day and walking round was a truly moving experience.

The photo is of the main, central part of the memorial, where the names of all those who have fallen in conflicts since the Second World War are inscribed. I have blipped the sculptures previously.

My previous blip of the sculptures

This was the approach, with the obelisk tipped with gold gleaming against the dark skies and framed by the shadowy trees.

We also went into the Far East War memorial building - very moving - and the linked photo is of

The Java Windows in the COFEPOW memorial.
