Vernal Pool on New Year's Day

We caught a glimpse of sunshine and blue sky, so we went outside for a bike ride to the game lands, where we parked the bikes and hiked.

In short order, the sky turned gray and it began to rain. I stowed my camera in my daysack, hoping it would stay dry there, and we beat it down the hill under pouring rain.

Before the rain began, I snapped a few shots. The vernal pools are still full of water, unusual for this time of year. It's been a wet fall. I hope the amphibians that live here have a glorious spring. Right now, I think they're probably sleeping under the mud.

It's to turn very cold in the coming few days. Maybe I'll come back with my ice skates!
