Gillingham away :-(

My first football match for far too long, and son number 2 and I decided that an away trip to Gillingham was called for to blow away some of the Christmas excesses.

I should say from the start that I hate Kentish football teams. Son number 2 was reminding me of the only time that he and I had taken the official supporters coach to an away match - when we lost at Dover a couple of years ago. That was another freezing cold day when we lost.

The referee was appalling - we should have had at least 2 penalties. I think it all started going wrong when the stewards ejected probably the second youngest Shots supporter from the ground for having the nerve to sing. We were worried that son number 2 was going to be next as he enthusiastically joined in with "Ooh it's a corner". As soon as the child was ejected, all the singing stopped and a general malaise descended over the pitiful travelling army of 208 cold away fans.

Then they scored a goal and they had a player sent off for a second dirty tackle on McGlash. Briefly we looked menacing, but a few blocked shots were all we had for our efforts. 2 pretty average teams today, and a rip off having to pay £20 for league 2 football.

And to cap it all, we couldn't find the fuse box to interfere with the floodlights in an effort to get the game abandoned :-(
