Leadenhall Market
Matt and I had a lovely two hour walk today. We went via Spitalfields Market, Brick Lane, St Mary's Axe, Leadenhall Market, Bank, St Paul's, The Barbican and then home. It was a lovely way to spend our last day of holiday before we are back at work tomorrow. We both love walking through the city when its quiet, looking at the architecture and chatting as we go.
The photo is of Leadenhall Market which dates back to the 14th century and was originally a meat and poultry market. I did a weeks management training at one of the stores a very long time ago and have always loved the red and gold covered ceiling. This was a couple of years after it was used to represent the area of London near The Leaky Cauldron and Diagon Alley in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. It has also featured in the films The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Hereafter, Lara Croft - Tomb Raider and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. It always looks it's best at Christmas time when the decorations are up.
