...You gotta know when to hold 'em.....
Wicked weather today, ferocious wind, rain, hail and sleet.
The hole in the road that was dug the day after Boxing Day has gone.....nearly... a crew turned up this morning, repaired the water pipe and filled in the hole....then they replaced the barrier around it and buggered off....because some other crew have to come to put the tarmac road surface back down! No wonder this country is bankrupt....I reckon the entire repair will have taken less than three hours when it's finished, about an hour or so to dig the hole, an hour to repair the leak and an hour to fill in the hole and make good....all of which could have been done on December 27th....instead of which there will have been three different lorries, using three lots of fuel, bringing three different crews, getting three lots of wages and the road has been up for 8 days all ready!
Went out to see the boys today, despite the shite weather....to teach Charlie how to play Texas Hold 'em poker. No....not baby Charlie....Charlie my fishing mate. We had a four......... Me, Henry who plays on line and Sam who assured us all he could play...plus Charlie.
Sam is a lying git.....he didn't know the rules.......... he didn't understand that if a bet had been raised he had to match it to stay in the game....had never heard of the small blind and the big blind.......... couldn't grasp the concept of all in........ played like a 4 year old giggling everytime he got a good hand....insisted on playing "blind" i.e not looking at his hole cards.....and thought that two pairs beat three of a kind! Turns out he'd played Draw Poker "a bit" when he was about 18....he's 64 now!
We played for nails, we've got a big box of them in the cabin, every time Sam got cleaned out he just grabbed another handful! After an hour Charlie had picked up the basics....Sam had been cleaned out 4 times and I could hardly lift the pile of nails in front of me....turns out Henry has only been playing on-line free sites for a couple of weeks...and he doesn't understand the blinds etc.
Don't think I'll be inviting them out to play Cribbage on a Sunday evening anytime soon.

p.s. Is anyone else having trouble with the standard drag and drop uploader? I keep having to use the basic uploader to publish entries.
