City to Sea Walkway - houses in Epuni Street

This morning I walked Wellington's City to Sea walkway. It's a 15 km walk from the central city to the south coast on Cook Strait.

The trail climbs and descends through the city and Wellington's southern suburbs. It traverses gardens, cemeteries, parks, forests, urban and suburban streets, a university, a golf course, and the hill-tops above Island Bay. It forms a section of Te Araroa (The Long Pathway), a 3000 km trail which runs the length of New Zealand.

This is a photo of houses above Epuni Street, in Aro Valley. They were probably built in the late 19th century. Much of Wellington city is hilly, and many houses are built on steep slopes.
