I love the click-clack noise that happens when you flip sides, the buzzy noise of rewinding or forwarding, the harsh snap when the tape runs out and turns itself off.

The best part is never touching rewind or forward, and being forced to listen through a collection of songs. No skipping, it makes me listen closer, it makes music more intimate. And it makes me think of the endless miles I walked to and from school listening on my walkman, creating worlds in my head as the sidewalk rushed by.

I always hated running out of batteries for my walkman.
