Hens

Not the best of photos.

We went to pick up our ex-battery rescue hens today - Vera, Lou Lou (name chosen by a friend's little girl) and Ha Ha (! Chosen by my very little niece). However, we also came away with Prudence! Hee hee.

They are all safely tucked up their hen house tonight awaiting the excitement of their first proper day of freedom and being allowed to be real hens. And then it'll be on to the business of growing all their feathers back.

Thankfully, those really awful, nasty cages are now illegal in the UK as of the new year. They have to be in 'enriched' cages now that allow them to display proper hen behaviour - scratch, move, roost, bathe, etc. Still not perfect but a step in the right direction.
