Spirits of Scotland
I was surprised and amused when a Russian journalist we were entertaining some years ago whipped out his camera and photographed the above scene.
Did he think it was some kind of secret military establishment?
We explained they were bonded whisky warehouses, a common sight in Scotland, but I don't think he believed us.
In the distance you can see the cooling towers of BP refinery in Grangemouth where oil comes in from the Brent oilfields in the North Sea.
So maybe he did have a point after all for whisky and petrol are two of Scotland's biggest exports.
I thought of him today when walking on Dumyat and I reached the knoll where he had photographed the above scene of Scotland's industrial central belt with the river Forth snaking its way into the Forth Estuary.
