Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

A very taxing day.

I spent most of today completing my tax return. This is without doubt the single most loathsome thing I ever have to do. Every year I procrastinate to the last possible moment, hoping that the need to complete might go away, but it never does! Anyway, by the time the paper work was complete the light had gone, together with any hope of an outdoor blip. So, after a taxing day, what better than a photograph of 2 coins that I found in the bottom of a desk drawer. One of them is quite old, made of almost pure silver, beautifully designed and finely minted. It is appreciating in value. The other is called, I think, a Euro. It is quite new and although a rather nasty little thing it looks as if might be made of gold and silver, but it isn't! It is depreciating in value.

The large coin is a United States Morgan dollar, a coin minted intermittently from 1878 to 1921. The coin is named after its designer, United States Mint Assistant Engraver George T. Morgan. The obverse depicts a profile portrait representing Liberty, while the reverse depicts an eagle with wings outstretched and clutching olive branches in its talons. The last Morgan dollars were minted in 1921.
