Dead Sea sunrise

Happy Birthday to me!!!

Awoke early as we are traveling today.

This is how you float in the Dead Sea. It is impossible to sink because of the high density of the water and dissolved salts. The solution behaves like a different fluid than any water I have ever known. The refractve index is different, it has a different viscosity and feels soapy to the touch. If you get it in your eye or mouth it burns horribly. I think if you accidentally inhaled a significant amount of it you would die from chemical burns to the lungs. I had a tiny droplet get into my eye and I had to struggle to get to the fresh water shower. (Who knows what it would do to a camera but I figured it was worth the picture to endanger the Lumix).

The Sun is rising over the Moab mountains in Jordan to the East.

Later we travel to Ein Gedi which is an oasis with sweet fresh water and waterfalls, then later in the day on to Eilat and the Red Sea.
