Surreal ship

Went for a look around the gardens of the Vittoriale degli Italiani in the grounds of the house of the novelist, dramatist and poet (and Fascist thinker) Gabriele d'Annunzio.

It's a very eccentric place - and the strangest sight is probably this, the light cruiser Puglia, which is now set into the hillside as a memorial and a small naval museum. It's hard to get across just how mind-bendingly strange it is to be standing on a ship's deck in the middle of wooded parkland - and at least a kilometre from the nearest water.

An amazing thing.
