The Wren

Sunset

I had a good catch up with my friends who had been looking after Cara and they were full of how much they had enjoyed her company and how well she had behaved. So it was a great relief to know that both dogs had been happy and good with their surrogate carers during my absence in Vegas.

I then stayed up quite late last night gripped with the recording of The Killing 11. I had only meant to catch up on one of them - but it didn't quite work that way!

Yet another dryish day when I eventually woke - can't believe it. I had been told about a slight variation of a popular walk of mine and so we set off to explore. It was a delightful wander through fairly dense pine woods where the ground was cushion soft underfoot and it was interesting to see that beds of pine needles had been pushed up against the roots and bases of the tree trunks forming insulating blankets. There was not a single sound of birdsong, the only muted sound being the rustle of pine needles as Bruce and Cara scampered freely around, noses to the ground for new smells.

Once away from this wee detour we met, or heard, groups of families also enjoying the relatively dry day. The snow on the hills was only barely visible as low cloud continues to engulf the majority of them, in its turn helping to maintain a reasonable air temperature.

Once home I completed a long awaited but essential chore and took an old leaking rain barrel plus squashed up cardboard boxes to the local recycling unit. back home I settled in with a cuppa to look over my photos to decide which was potential blip material. A phone call disturbed me and as I looked out of the window I noticed that the sky was a wonderful mixtures of reds and pinks. I don't get a good view of any sunset from the house so I grabbed my coat, camera and car keys and set off to see if I could catch any of it from the hill. The blip is a rather poor capture I am afraid but it was the only one with the hills marginally in focus. Hopefully you can see how glorious a sky it might have been a little earlier. Well .....I tried.
