Coming of Age in the Year of the Dragon

Today was Coming of Age Day in Japan when men and women who turn twenty years of age within this year go to the shrine to pray for good fortune. This should be a day for celebration, yet the young ladies in their beautiful kimono seem dejected, as if they are entering the mouth of the dragon which dominates the frame.
