So, almost seven weeks after it happened, we have at last got the guys in to repair the living room ceiling. In the end we decided to replace the whole thing, rather than just patch the bit that came down. Especially as there didn't seem to be any particular reason for it falling other than old age and the eventual separation of the plaster from the wooden laths. This way we have plasterboard screwed in place over the whole ceiling, giving us peace of mind that no more of it is going to come down. Once they finish off - hopefully tomorrow, but definitely by Wednesday we'll need to leave it to dry before starting on the redecoration, and then the carpet cleaning. Probably better in that order, just in case of rogue paint drips!
