Knucklebones
Back to work today, looking at the faunal bones from the Old College site. We will see if the damp, dusty dungeon re-invigorates my cough...
This is part of the ankle of a leg of lamb, the astragalus, calcaneus and central tarsal. The fact that it was all found together, suggests that it had been chopped off and discarded before the joint was cooked; all the other bits of bone from this context were similarly from "waste" parts of sheep, cow and pig carcasses, so probably represent waste from the kitchens of the University...
