Peninsula Light

By PeninsulaLight

Things were generally a bit grim looking out the window at work, with the Black Isle looking particularly... well, black, at times. There were a few breaks in the cloud, and today's Blip is one I noticed during a busy day.

This particular tree, always seems to be the very first for miles about to gain its leaves in Spring. Being the tallest in this part of the Longman Industrial Estate (Inverness), it also attracts quite a few migrant birds. Whenever there is a large fall of Waxwings to the area, I always see (or hear) them in this tree before any other.

It's a good vantage point, and a pair of crows have had a nest here for years. A couple of times I've seen the crows upset some of the neighbourhood Herring Gulls. And when chased by the gulls, the crows just head for the tree, and happily sit, almost sneering, looking out at the gulls. Ever seen a gull in a tree? They're too big and clumsy to deal with twigs. Suspect webbed feet are a problem too!

That thing on the right isn't a watchtower to keep track on the College's Students, but is used by the Fire Brigade to practice their drills, and carry out training exercises.

NEWSFLASH!
