A bonny morning on the Ythan Estuary
The day started splendidly in Newburgh on Ythan with a lovely sunrise and a mackerel sky. Zoomify to enjoy the view to the maximum.
The view brought to mind the first verse of a song written in the early 1800s by the Aberdeen poet Patrick Knox. He wrote the words when he was 11 years old, at the request of a young man leaving Scotland for America.
Ythan Banks
How sweet on Ythan's banks to stray,
At early morn or close of day,
When Flora decks the fields all gay
With fragrance blooming fair!
There are scenes of grandeur,
Dressed in Nature's splendour;
Fair maids there often wander
To breath the balmy air.
