Geodes

Son bought me 2 geodes for Christmas
I was very excited and have been bashing away with a hammer for ages now but they seem reluctant to fall apart and reveal the tiny crystal cave that lies within.
Any tips?
Did think of giving up and telling the Nursery (mid dinosaur topic) that they were fossilised dinosaur eggs.
