African Black Oystercatchers

The Black Oystercatcher (Haematopus moquini) is endemic to South Africa's coast and increasingly rare. They are distinctive for their jet black plumage, long bright orange bill and pink legs.

We are fortunate to have had a nesting pair here in Rooi Els for some time and I was even luckier to spot them while they were out for their breakfast this morning.
