Tiles

We did a trip round the east of the island, which included a trip to a wicker workshop - the furniture is absolutely beautiful, and there were animals made from wicker as well as the expected baskets etc.

However, the final place was Monte - where the teleferique from Funchal terminates. These tiles are on the wall of a house near the main square. The train line has gone, but the wicker baskets still take tourists down hill. They now compete with cars on the same road. And no, I haven't ever taken one - it's much more exciting to take the local bus back down to Funchal. On this occasion, we were on a local tour so didn't take the option of the wicker basket or local bus.
