Tree stump
Out walking today and this wonderful old tree stump caught my eye. It looked as if it was wearing a fantastic cape.
The more I looked, the more I saw! Not only different mosses and young ferns growing in such a variety of greens, but gorgeous purples in the leaves of the old beech and birch trees, lying wetly around the base, and russets and darker browns in the old dead ferns, their once tall stems now bent and flat. There were other plants growing too, those that love damp and shady conditions. I couldn't name them but that didn't matter, it was the beauty of it all together.
The tree itself is no more but its remains continue to provide the perfect habitat for life to go on.
