Really stuck

I've been trying to install Photoshop elements 10.
The installation gets so far then rollsback and for some reason it then persuades my laptop that it no longer has a dvd drive.

grrrrrr

Strangely enough, yesterday I managed to successfully install PSE10 on a much older laptop.

done a bit of hunting on the web but not found the solution so far.
