Keeping Me Sane

Mt Zion AME Church

This African Methodist Episcopal Church was organized and built in 1868. Rebuilt as the first brick church owned by a black congregation began in 1891 under the supervision of black architect and builder, Levi Alexander, Sr.. In December of 1979 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It's the only surviving brick 19th-century religious structure in Ocala.

I'll take more photos in the future of the whole church but I'm always admiring these windows as I pass by almost every day.
