Thank the gods for theatre
To London today for a real treat - a performance of the play Jerusalem, a modern parable on all things English. An absolute tour de force by the writer Jez Butterworth and Mark Rylance in the lead role. I'd recommend you go to see it but I hadn't realised today was the final day of its London run. Apparently tickets have been available on eBay for three times face value and people have been queueing all night in the hope of returns.
So I felt very lucky to see it, and in such a fine theatre, The Apollo in Shaftesbury Avenue. I just love these old London theatres in all their gilded finery.
