Oyster farms, Bassin de Thau

The Thau lagoon is the largest lake in the Languedoc covering some 7500 hectares and averaging 5 feet in depth.
Home to oyster and mussels farms and producing 12,000 tonnes of oysters per year we worked our way through a fair number of those at one of the shellfish restaurants, La Ferme Marine, along the waterside.

Along with the oysters there were whelks, prawns, crabs and mussels washed down with Picpoul de Pinet.Made from the Piquepol grape it is one of the oldest Languedoc grape varieties and grown in "Marine vineyards" on the edge of the lagoon.

And yes as we were beside the seaside there was a chocolate icecream sundae to finish up with.
Groan...............and super yum.
