Frosty, fun day
The day started off well with a beautiful frosty morning, took some pics first thing as it was another bonnie sunrise and the moon was lovely and bright in the sky.
Spent a the afternoon catching up with friends down visiting from the Shetland Islands, took them on a bit of sightseeing and had a fantastic experience in Maeshowe which is a chambered tomb over 5000 years old. For approx one month in winter around the solstice the sun sets and sends a ray of light down the chambers passage which lights up the entire tomb. Today we had the most magical experience as we were lucky enough to see this first hand and the guide said it was the best display she'd seen this winter. It really was quite amazing.
I would've liked to have blipped this however there is no photography permitted, however afterwards we headed to the Ring of Brodgar to take in the sun set which was also very spectacular.
