double eagle ii

stopped to see this on the way to the airport this morning. the double eagle ii monument marks the launch site (presque isle, me) of the famed double eagle ii balloon, the first ever to cross the atlantic on 17 august 1978. after 137 hours and 6 minutes, 3 american pilots went into the history books upon landing in miserey, france - this being the 14th known attempt to cross the ocean.

rushed home today to unpack and re-pack. i too will be crossing the atlantic again tomorrow - by jet airplane of course. i just hope my trip's nowhere near the 137-hour mark.
