Outeniqua Mountains

On my way back from the airport after having dropped Mr S for an unexpected visit to the north, I decided to stop by at the George Botanical Gardens.

This is the view of the Outeniqua Mountains from across the pond at the gardens.

This mountains run from east to west, for about 100 kilometers. It starts at Mosselbay in the west and runs all the way next to the coast line up to Keurbooms River Valley, which is close to Plettenberg Bay, in the east.

The name 'Outeniqua' is derived from the Khoisan tribe's language who inhabited this area many years ago.

The highest peak, visible in the blip, is known as Cradock Peak, and at 1578m above sea level, is just north of George. (Hubby and a friend has climbed to the top)

This is mostly the sight seen by the residents of George when looking north, and it is amazing how attached one becomes to this mountain.

There are no two days when it looks exactly the same, and it has special charm when clouds seem to hover above it, or in between the valleys.
