House sparrow but not an ouch

I am always looking for wildlife photos relating to numbers between 1-10 for a little project I am working on. Lucky enough to see lots of birds as I live in the Countryside outside Devizes, Wiltshire.
Here are 4 house sparrows I caught today making there way into the garden in fact I have seen a big increase in sparrows over the least two years. When I was young they were very common and big flocks but slowly numbers declined and became a rare sight but now they are on the up in the Wiltshire area.

Question how come when the birds land on the bramble you never hear an 'ouch' they avoid the thorns every time but the thorns get me every time I walk by *smile*
