An Awakening

CENTRAL PARK FIREBALLS

I HAPPENED TO BE IN NEW YORK CITY TODAY, STROLLING THROUGH CENTRAL PARK. I THOUGHT THE PARK WOULD BE RICH WITH PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES AND I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. THE BEAUTY WAS AT EVERY TURN. THE TREES IN ONE AREA LOOKED LIKE TALL MATURE DANCERS STANDING CLOSE TOGETHER. THEIR ARMS REACHING HIGH ABOVE THEIR HEADS, UNINHIBITED, AS THEIR WAVY GREY BODIES SEEMED TO MOVE WITHIN THE LIGHT AND SHADOW OF THE DAY. I JUST LOVE TREES. THE TEMPERATURES WERE WELL BELOW FREEZING AND THE DAY WAS GETTING LATE, AS I WANDERED ABOUT I KEPT SEEING PEOPLE SITTING ON PARK BENCHES, LEISURELY READING THE SUNDAY PAPER, I THOUGHT HOW LOVELY, TO JUST BE. TO JUST SIT IN THIS BEAUTY AND RELAX AND TO ADD TO THE ARTISTRY OF THE LANDSCAPE AS IF THEY WERE ACTORS IN CHARACTER. THEN COMING TO MY SENSES AND REALIZING JUST HOW COLD IT REALLY WAS I JUST THOUGHT THESE PEOPLE MUST OBVIOUSLY BE DIE HARD NEW YORKERS. I CONTINUED WALKING BRISKLY, COMING UPON AN OPEN AREA WHERE THERE WERE SEVERAL BIRDS. ANOTHER FASCINATION OF MINE. I WAS ESPECIALLY THRILLED BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT THE TYPICAL WRENS THERE, I HAD COME UPON ABOUT SEVEN CARDINALS AND BECAUSE THIS WAS A VERY PUBLIC PARK, THE BIRDS WERE VERY FRIENDLY TOWARDS PEOPLE AND IT ALLOWED ME TO SNAP THEIR PICTURES. FOR SUCH A GREY FRIGID DAY, THEIR FIREBALL RED FEATHERS SEEMED TO WARM ME UP AND FORGET ABOUT MY EXPOSED AND FROZEN FINGERS.
I CAN NOT WAIT FOR SPRING SO I CAN WANDER THIS PARK AGAIN.
